Kaysinger Bluff Pioneer Heritage Association

Kaysinger Bluff Pioneer Heritage Association holds three annual events located at the Harry S. Truman Visitor Center, approximately one mile north of Warsaw, Missouri. Each event is held in a "special area" at the Visitor Center which features authentic 1800's structures.

Living History Days is held in early spring, specifically for area elementary students. The event highlights everyday pioneer living, and is intended to enhance academic studies of 19th century life. Students will enjoy Living History Days, which provides a great opportunity for children to interact with the history of their forefathers.

Heritage Days is held annually the third weekend in October. This event brings many old-time crafters and demonstrators of pioneer life to the Heritage Association's signature celebration of pioneer life; drawing thousands of guests from around the United States and other countries to the Warsaw area. This celebration of our past has been held for over three decades, with each year's presentation of pioneer life better than the last. If you haven't visited us lately, you're missing what's new about the old.

Kaysinger Christmas is held in early December. Guests get a here-and-now feeling for the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of days gone by, while enjoying old-fashioned décor: wood stoves and fire places, singing of carols, and festive pioneer table fare. Come early, stay until dark and witness changes that occur as night falls ... while strolling along paths elegantly lit by hundreds of period luminaries, as windows dressed for the season glow from the light of earlier period oil lamps.

At the pioneer building site, a short walking distance from the modern Visitor Center, is the Ed Elmore cabin ... open to explore. In the same area, there is an old-time smoke house next to an early-day family's log cabin, a barn with dog trot, and a village smithy. Just down the trail there is a Chautauqua-style amphitheater, plus a one room school house. The Hooper House and summer kitchen, a grist mill and sorghum press, along with an old barn renovated for use as a kitchen for Heritage Days, Kaysinger Christmas, and Living History Days, complete this snapshot of our early history. The latest addition is the Kaysinger General Store, offering a glimpse of earlier life. The store will be open this year for Kaysinger Christmas, and is planned to be in full operation in the spring of 2012.

Come, and enjoy!
