Kaysinger Bluff Pioneer Heritage Association

Heritage Days at Warsaw, Missouri - October 20 and 21, 2012

Each year in October, the residents of the Warsaw area gather together to celebrate the fall harvest and the unique Ozark heritage of the area and its people.

This celebration is known as Heritage Days, and is brought to you through a cooperative effort of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Kaysinger Bluff Pioneer Heritage Association, the Warsaw Area Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Warsaw.

There are two primary events during this celebration that are distinctly different, yet both provide enlightenment to people of all ages. At Drake Harbor in downtown Warsaw, the Chamber of Commerce presents modern-day crafters and exhibitors. The Kaysinger Bluff Pioneer Heritage Association presents pioneer crafts at our location at the Harry S. Truman Visitor Center during the same time.

Admission for Adults: $4.00
Children aged 6 - 12: $2.00

Pioneer Heritage Days - Crafts of the 1800s

The Kaysinger Bluff Pioneer Heritage Association presents nineteenth-century crafts and demonstrations that can be witnessed at the Harry S. Truman Visitor Center and throughout the many wooded trails that surround the area. Visit the historical Hooper House, the Concord Schoolhouse, and the 1850s replicated pioneer homestead.

Be sure to sample some of the pioneer fare while walking the wooded trails. Come early for homemade biscuits and gravy, stay for a traditional ham and bean dinner with smoked turkey legs and other foods from the era. The tastes and smells of Pioneer Heritage Days also include kettle corn, homemade fudge, homemade sorghum, and fresh-pressed apple butter.

Among the sights to see at Pioneer Heritage Days are the many crafts from the 1800s. Demonstrated crafts include handmade quilts presented by the Spoonbill Quilters Guild. This non-profit organization has been an exhibitor of Pioneer Heritage Days since its inception. Once a year a quilt is made and raffled off to benefit the community and county. The guild also teaches children each spring about crafts from their history. In the event of a disaster, special quilts are made and given to families in need. Each August, various quilts are displayed at the Harry S. Truman Visitor Center. The Kaysinger Bluff Pioneer Association hopes you will visit these talented ladies to watch them as they work on a special quilt.

Be sure to check our photo gallery for more craft demonstrations. Better still, come visit us in Warsaw, Missouri, in October, to see first-hand how these talented men and women have preserved our pioneer heritage.
